Lawrence Central Rotary is proud to announce Jane Phelps as our 2010 Teacher of The Year recipient. Jane's signature phrase "Grab a root and grunt" sums up Jane's approach of seeing a challenge, analyzing it, and coming up with a plan to overcome it. Then, get busy. Jane is retiring this year from Schwegler Elementary – where she taught fifth grade for over 20 years. Jane has instilled her work ethic and stick-to-it attitude to so many students over the year, and for that, we thank her.
Becky Castro presents the award to Jane Phelps.
Camille and Pauline (here pictures with members Steve and Carolyn) are exchange students from France. Camille spent the last year living with Carolyn and attended Free State High School. Pauline attended Shawnee Heights. When we asked how our high schools compare with the schools they attended in France, Camille said that they are more enjoyable here – and that she was not used to being able to pick her courses. Pauline was more critical saying that our schools offer lots of great classes, but that the expectations are low and that the curriculum is too easy.
