Lawrence's Day of Caring 2007 brought together more than 300 volunteers, many representing local businesses and community organizations. Community spirit ran high as the volunteers worked on 50 community service projects. Lawrence Central Rotary helped with painting the kitchen of the Salvation Army, as well as improving rainfall drainage and landscaping on the exterior. Held in conjunction with National Volunteer Week, the event benefited Douglas County nonprofit agencies and community members in need. The service projects included yard work, painting and producing artwork to name a few. Day of Caring 2007 began with a kickoff breakfast at Lawrence's Free State High School.
